About the Filmmaker - Modar Zawati
An independent Muslim Canadian filmmaker with a background in experimental cinema. He holds a Master’s degree in Cinema from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His thesis explored Muslim expression in short films on YouTube. He also holds a certificate in Islamic Art and Architecture from the University of Oxford.
He is the founder of Nos Vues, a small Canadian production company dedicated to supporting Muslim artists and encouraging them to express themselves through cinema with other communities. A Run in the Park is considered his first short film produced under his company involving a full cast and crew.
Mission and objectives
Promote Muslim Artistic Expression
Provide Muslim artists with a platform to express their creativity, share their perspectives, and tell their stories through cinema.
Produce Meaningful Cinematic Works
Develop and produce short films, feature films, fiction, and documentaries that explore diverse human experiences and artistic perspectives.
Support Emerging Talent
Create opportunities for emerging artists, both Muslim and non-Muslim, to participate in film production, develop their skills, and gain practical experience in the cinematic arts.
Foster Intercommunity Dialogue and Social Cohesion
Use cinema as a bridge between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, encouraging cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and a stronger sense of shared humanity.
